LIFE & DEATH IN A ROMAN VILLA

In 1912, excavations at the Yewden Roman Villa near Hambleden in Buckinghamshire uncovered a wealth of ancient artefacts. Almost a century later, in 2008, archaeologist Dr Eyers returned to these forgotten finds. Using modern techniques, including aerial photography and advanced geophysics, her team revealed a complex world of heavy military bureaucracy and shocking crimes. The talk will explore the daily realities of the villa’s residents and investigate the site’s most chilling mystery: the mass burial of 97 Roman newborns. It’s based on the monograph published in 2011.
The event will be in the Kings Chapel, 30 High St, Amersham HP7 0DJ. The access to the chapel is via the Kings Arms car park. Doors open at 7.30pm when coffee/tea will be served and the talk will start at 8.00pm.
