LIFE & DEATH IN A ROMAN VILLA

In 1912, excavations at the Yewden Roman Villa near Hambleden in Buckinghamshire uncovered a wealth of ancient artefacts. Almost a century later, in 2008, archaeologist Dr Eyers returned to these forgotten finds. Using modern techniques, including aerial photography and advanced geophysics, her team revealed a complex world of heavy military bureaucracy and shocking crimes. The talk will explore the daily realities of the villa’s residents and investigate the site’s most chilling mystery: the mass burial of 97 Roman newborns. It’s based on the monograph “Romans in the Hambleden Valley: Yewden Roman Villa” published in 2011.
The event will be in the Kings Chapel in Amersham High St. Doors open at 7.30pm when coffee/tea and biscuits will be served and the talk will start at 8.00pm. The entrance charge is £5.
