Vagabond Notice Conservation Work Commenced

This is an update on the progress of the Vagabond Notice conservation work commenced by the Amersham Society.

On 15 Aug 2019 the sign was taken down from the wall of no. 60, The Broadway, and on following day was delivered to Martin Cook, the same conservator who performed its 1994 restoration.

Martin immediately noticed some signs of live woodworm and will take steps to treat it. Some of the battens at the back are a bit rotten and he may be able to harden the wood. His current intention is to wash the front with sugar soap and go over the lettering as required.

In his estimation it would be 2-3 weeks before he expects to finish.
