Buckinghamshire Local History Network (BLHN) 2019 Annual Conference and Local History Fair will be held on Sat 5 Oct 2019 at The Oculus, the Aylesbury Vale District Council conference centre in Gatehouse Road, Aylesbury – plus The Street exhibition space with displays and bookstalls by local societies.
A full one-day conference “Buckinghamshire’s social housing – from Almshouses to Right-to-Buy” looking at the changing face of housing for the people, in Buckinghamshire and generally: cottages on manorial estates, the 18th-century workhouse that provided work, the 19th-century workhouse that enforced it, ‘Homes fit for Heroes’ after the First World War, council housing before and after the Second, the New Towns and Milton Keynes, the effects of Right-to-Buy.
