The John Hampden Society‘s treasurer, Sam Hearn will be delivering a talk on William Hakewill MP, a notable lawyer, historian, antiquary and a close colleague of John Hampden’s. He was the senior of Amersham’s two MPs when the borough was re-enfranchised in 1626. He was a renowned constitutional lawyer and a lively opponent in the House of Commons of policies of the early Stuart monarchs. Hakewill was active in local Buckinghamshire politics. He lived in Wendover and is buried there – at one stage he held the lease on the Chequers Estate.

Coffee/tea and biscuits will be available from 7.30pm. The talk starts at 8.00pm. No booking necessary. Guests and new members welcome.
