The Society became aware of a letter to residents from Chiltern District Council referring to this wall which they deemed unsafe. Having failed to identify the owner(s), they proposed to spend their limited resources on making the wall safe which would result in a significant but unspecified reduction in its height.
Although the wall is not listed, it is old and we considered it to be an important demarcation between the medieval street plan and twentieth century development. We therefore urged CDC to take longer to establish ownership and offered some historical clues to suggest further lines of enquiry.
In the event, a builder offered to repair the wall, maintaining its original height. For this, the Amersham Society is very grateful.
